Digital Radiography
These days everything is “digital,” but not every veterinarian has digital x-ray machines. Digital x-rays benefit you with 25% less radiation, no chemicals, no film waste and less stress on the pet and the technician. In addition, fewer radiographic views are required and images are visible within seconds.  Because digital x-ray is so powerful, we have the ability to adjust detail on the images depending on the focus of attention. We can even visualize hair, soft tissue planes and blood vessels in some instances.

Advanced Anesthetic Monitoring Systems
If your pet ever needs surgery, anesthesia is a major component. Our advanced systems can monitor your pet’s oxygen and CO2 levels, blood pressure and EKG. All of this allows us to detect abnormalities immediately and adjust and fine-tune our anesthesia protocols according to the individual patient’s metabolic needs, making the procedure much safer for your pet.

Isolation room/ICU
We offer an independent ventilation system in an isolation ICU room that includes the ability to heat/cool room according to pet’needs.  We can care for pets with compromised immune systems or contagious diseases without compromising the health of our other hospitalized patients.

Comprehensive-In-House-Laboratory
Want to know what is going on with your pet’s health now? A comprehensive-in-house-lab can be a huge advantage. We can obtain results in minutes, especially for our critical care patients. With faster lab results we can get a rapid diagnosis and begin treatment immediately, leading to a higher probability of a good prognosis and return of your pet’s good health. Treatment recommendations vary based on blood tests and some tests may require longer delivery, such as specific endocrine/hormone tests, cultures and other tests requiring a pathologist’s review.

Ultrasonic Dental Equipment and Digital Dental Radiography
When your pets need dental care, you want it to be effective and safe. Pets undergoing dental care need anesthesia for effective treatment. The less time your pet spends under anesthesia, the better. Our rapid ultrasonic dental scaling thoroughly cleans teeth and minimizes the amount of time the patient is under anesthesia. In addition, our digital dental radiography provides us instant information to evaluate root resorption, abscesses, fractured teeth and more, allowing us to asses and treat your pet’s oral health immediately while your pet is still under anesthesia.

Modern Surgical Room
Our surgical room is efficiently set up with the latest equipment to maintain a sterile environment.  Drop down oxygen lines, automatic sliding doors and a pass through window allow ease of access to surgical materials, instruments and medications without compromising the sterilized environment. The recovery room is suited with security cameras so that pets in recovery and critical care can be supervised from any computer terminal in the hospital. The surgical room and hospital wards utilize natural lighting as do all of the rooms throughout the hospital, providing a soothing environment for our patients, clients and staff.

Integrative Holistic care

In addition to traditional western veterinary medicine, The Whole Pet Vet offers integrative, holistic care including acupuncture, food therapy and herbal remedies. Our doctors have the tools to evaluate each patient as an individual, and make treatment recommendations based on both western and eastern philosophies. The Whole Pet Vet uses western and eastern diagnostic tools to help evaluate an integrative approach to your pet’s wellness.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is used to alleviate and treat painful conditions and inflammatory disorders such as arthritis, immune-mediated diseases and allergies.  It can also be used as an adjunct treatment for neurological disorders such as vestibular disease and epilepsy, and for behavioral disorders such as anxiety, excessive grooming and urine marking.  Acupuncture has been effective in managing the side effects associated with kidney or liver disease and various cancers.  Acupuncture is non-painful and has no side effects. It induces an endorphin release which leads to relaxation and a general “feel good” effect. Watch your pet chill out when he receives his first treatment and discover its long term benefits to overall wellness!

Chiropractic Care Services
Animal chiropractor, Dr. Deb Sell, offers chiropractic care at The Whole Pet Vet. Chiropractic care is a holistic approach to help many health and performance problems for pets. Based on movement and symmetry, chiropractic care focuses on the health and proper movement of all joints in the body, but especially the proper functioning of the spinal column. Chiropractic care does not replace traditional veterinary medicine and surgery but offers an alternative method that complements traditional care. Used concurrently, many of your pet’s musculoskeletal conditions respond dramatically and rehabilitation can take place quickly.  She’ll be available to our practice once or twice a month and more often as needed. Dr. Sell is available to do an adjustment on a referral basis/by appointment only.  Pets must first be evaluated by Dr. Wheeler or Dr. Krick prior to referral.

Herbs and Supplements
Herbs and supplements can be used in conjunction with western medications to treat a variety of medical and behavioral disorders.  It is especially useful for patients with underlying liver or kidney diseases who cannot tolerate certain prescription drugs used commonly to treat pain and inflammation. The focus of herbal supplement use (and acupuncture) is to correct any underlying imbalances with the goal of achieving an overall state of “wellness.”  Treatment can range from short term to long term, but overall we see minimal side effects with long term use. Use of herbs can allow us to decrease the dose of drugs with potentially more toxic side effects.

Nutritional Counseling
“You are what you eat.” This applies to our pets too!  Treatment of any medical or behavioral condition should always include a dietary evaluation.  We may recommend prescription diets formulated for specific disease conditions or elimination diets to reduce exposure of potentially more inflammatory ingredients.  In some cases, a diet change alone can reverse potentially life threatening diseases such as diabetes. Diet can be critical in the treatment of patients with allergies leading to dermatitis or chronic ear infections. Diet is also directly correlated to dental health.  Periodontal disease (inflammation/infection of the tooth and its surrounding structures) can lead to systemic disease if left untreated.
